Where does Venom fit in the MCU?

By the Kuvacult team · Published August 24, 2026

Short answer: Venom is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Hardy’s three Venom films belong to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Eddie Brock crosses into the MCU only once, in a pair of post-credits scenes tied to Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Two separate universes

Marvel Studios makes the MCU. Sony makes its own films with Spider-Man characters, including Venom, Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter. The two studios share Spider-Man, which is why Tom Holland’s Peter Parker appears in the MCU, but Sony’s other films happen in a different universe.

The crossover, step by step

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange casts a spell that goes wrong and pulls in people from other universes who know Spider-Man’s identity. The mid-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage shows Eddie and Venom being pulled into the MCU by that spell.

No Way Home’s mid-credits scene then shows Eddie at a bar in the MCU, learning about the Avengers and Thanos. When Strange fixes the spell, Eddie is sent back to his own universe, but a small piece of the symbiote stays behind.

Venom: The Last Dance continues Eddie’s story after he returns home and ends the trilogy.

Questions

Is Venom part of the MCU?

No. The Venom trilogy is part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which is separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Eddie Brock only visits the MCU briefly in a crossover.

How does Venom get into the MCU?

The spell Doctor Strange casts in Spider-Man: No Way Home pulls people who know Spider-Man’s identity in from other universes. That is how Eddie lands in the MCU at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Do I need to watch No Way Home before Venom: The Last Dance?

It helps. The mid-credits scene of No Way Home explains how Eddie gets back to his own universe, which is where The Last Dance picks up.

Will Venom join the MCU?

Nothing is confirmed. Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock returned to his own universe, but a small piece of the symbiote was left behind in the MCU.
